Cardinals DFA pitcher who talked back to Yadier Molina
By Mark Powell
It turns out getting into an argument with Yadier Molina isn’t the best way to keep a roster spot on the St. Louis Cardinals down the stretch.
Daniel Ponce de Leon has been designated for assignment with just two weeks left in the MLB season. It turns out getting into an argument with Yadier Molina isn’t the best way to keep a roster spot on the St. Louis Cardinals down the stretch for any minor-league pitcher.
In the corresponding roster move, Brandon Waddell has been recalled from Triple-A Memphis. Waddell will likely fill a bullpen role.
While it’s likely not directly related to his demotion, Ponce de Leon did get in a slight argument with catcher Yadier Molina after shaking him off repeatedly. When Yadi says to throw the pitch, you throw the pitch.

St. Louis Cardinals demote Daniel Ponce de Leon
Talking back to Yadi didn’t go according to plan. Our own Scott Rogust outlined the situation:
"“Ponce de Leon entered in the bottom of the fifth inning in relief of Jake Woodford with a 2-2 tie, and had far from the greatest performance. After he forced Tomas Nido to ground out, Ponce de Leon issued three consecutive walks, with a wild pitch thrown in between. After being replaced by Kodi Whitley, the Mets took a 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly by Michael Conforto. The Cardinals got out of the inning after Whitley struck out Pete Alonso.”"
Yeah, like I said….maybe listen to the future Hall-of-Fame backstop!
