3. Top fantasy football pickups for Week 3 – Raiders QB Derek Carr

Another option for owners looking for a quarterback is Raiders’ starter Derek Carr, who had a tremendous effort in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Flying across the country on a short week, Carr lit up a strong Steelers’ defense to help Las Vegas pull off a big upset.

The volume has certainly been there for Carr, who completed 28-of-37 passes for 382 yards with two touchdowns to beat the Steelers. This is the second straight heavy passing yardage week for Carr, who threw for over 400 yards in Las Vegas’ overtime win over Baltimore in Week 1, which is something worth considering if your league awards yardage bonuses.

Josh Jacobs sat out of this game with an injury and as long as he is banged up expect Jon Gruden to put more on Carr’s plate to drive the offense. With an ascending group of young receivers, including one we will mention in a bit, there is some sneaky streaming potential for Carr in the coming weeks.

Carr is rostered in just 25 percent of Yahoo leagues and has favorable matchups against the Dolphins, Chargers and Bears in the next three weeks. Adding a guy like Carr to your roster can offer some strong insurance under center with the potential for significant upside.
