5 bold predictions for Seahawks against Vikings

The Seattle Seahawks take on the Minnesota Vikings in an anticipated Week 3 matchup between the two high-powered passing attacks.

When the Seattle Seahawks hosted the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5 of last season, they bore many similar qualities to the teams that will now face one another in Week 3.

Both teams feature veteran passers who have already thrown for hundreds of yards early in the season, and stalwart running backs that facilitate a smooth offense.

Conversely, both teams have also demonstrated weakened defenses early in 2021: the Seahawks allowed 33 points in Week 2, while the Vikings allowed 34. Both teams ended Week 2 with losses resulting from last-minute field goals.

With a blueprint from last season’s narrow 27-26 victory, the Seahawks offense will be critical during their on-field battle this Sunday.

Here are five bold predictions as the Seahawks head to U.S. Bank Stadium.

5. Tyler Lockett goes for 150 passing yards

While 150 yards is ambitious for any receiver, Tyler Lockett has proven that he is capable of back-to-back 100-yard weeks this season. Lockett built on a 100-yard game against the Indianapolis Colts with a 178-yard spectacular last week against the Titans.

Lockett and Wilson have built their lethal deep-threat chemistry over the past six seasons, with Lockett able to find holes in coverage and Wilson able to sling passes 50 or 60 yards downfield.

In his two showings this year, Lockett has averaged 25 yards and 22.25 yards per catch, respectively. His three touchdowns on the season make him a clutch red zone target, but it’s Lockett’s ability to move the Seahawks down the field that will come into critical play in Week 3.

Notably, the Lockett connection is what worked for Seattle last week, with Lockett getting two receptions of 50 or more yards in a single game. His 63-yard touchdown was his seventh of 50 or more yards, leaving him one behind tying Joey Galloway for the most in franchise history.

Although Lockett only scored 44 yards in last year’s matchup against the Vikings, he will be necessary in a win over the Vikings. With how his 2021 season has opened thus far, Lockett is primed for another big day.
