The LSU Tigers might be missing their best defensive back when they start SEC play against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

When LSU heads to Starkville to play the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Tigers could potentially be missing one of the best defensive backs in the country. According to a report from The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron stated that Derek Stingley Jr. is “very questionable” to play against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday.

Stingley is remarkably talented and is by far one of the best defensive backs in the country. But according to Alexander’s report, Orgeron said Stingley re-injured an injury he was dealing with back in camp.

If Stingley is unable to play, this will be the second time he hasn’t faced MSU in as many seasons. LSU’s star cornerback missed the game against Mississippi State a season ago and the Bulldogs responded by torching the Tigers for 623 passing yards and five touchdowns in a 44-34 win for MSU.

Losing Stingley could potentially be devastating for the Tigers and it comes at an awful time. While Mississippi State is far from being a great team and has routinely failed to play up to its potential through the first three weeks of the season, the Bulldogs thrive at throwing the ball.

With Mike Leach as their head coach, MSU has been working on developing the Air Raid. Things haven’t always been great for State’s offense so far with Leach as head coach in Starkville, but the Bulldogs are able to move the ball through the air.

So far this season, Mississippi State is averaging 361 passing yards per game. Bulldogs quarterback Will Rogers has thrown for 1,083 yards and eight touchdowns against one interception all while completing 74.8 percent of his passes.

Mississippi State and LSU will face off Saturday at 11 a.m. CT in Starkville. We’ll find out soon enough if Stingley will be with the Tigers then.
