Instead of focusing on his first pro start on Thursday night, NFL Twitter is focused on rookie quarterback Davis Mills’ neck.
The Houston Texans are in a conundrum at the quarterback position. Deshaun Watson has no desire to play for the team while also being the subject of a sexual assault investigation and Tyrod Taylor was placed on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury. That means rookie signal caller and third-round draft pick Davis Mills out of Stanford is making his first NFL start.
In the lead-up to his matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night, NFL Twitter were very focused on the size of Mills’ neck. Yes, seriously.

No surprise that Davis Mills was neck in line to grab the Texans QB gig. pic.twitter.com/KtbqEgz54l

when Davis Mills does the "double-handed QB collar pull" it just accentuates his already shocking neck length pic.twitter.com/b1otJS8yea

The Texans were in obvious need of a young quarterback on the roster, as Watson had demanded a trade off the team earlier in the offseason. With that, Houston used the 67th-overall pick on Mills, who played three seasons at Stanford. Through his three years, Mills recorded 3,468 yards, 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 65.5-percent of his passes.
Mills did make his pro debut last week when Taylor picked up his hamstring injury against the Cleveland Browns. The rookie completed 8-of-18 pass attempts for 104 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the 31-21 loss.
The Texans sure do hope that Mills’ play will eliminate the neck talk on social media. He looks to do so against the Panthers.
