NC State beat Clemson for the first time since 2011 with a 2OT win vs. Dabo Swinney’s Tigers.

Billed as the Textile Bowl, the NC State football team has an annual rivalry with the Clemson football program.

The Tigers have met the Wolfpack on the gridiron 88 times entering the 2021 college season. While Clemson holds a sizable lead in this ACC Atlantic rivalry, every now and then, the Wolfpack will get the best of the Tigers. Given the Clemson has emerged as a juggernaut in the ACC in the dawn of the College Football Playoff era, when was the last time NC State defeated the Tigers?

It’s been a while, but the Wolfpack handed the Tigers an L in the Barack Obama administration.

Clemson hadn’t lost to NC State since the 2011 season

Before losing on Saturday night, the last time the Tigers fell to the Wolfpack was on Nov. 19, 2011. NC State dismantled the Tigers to the tune of 37-13 in Raleigh. Tom O’Brien was the head coach of the Wolfpack and his star quarterback was Mike Glennon. This was the same 2011 college season O’Brien kicked Russell Wilson to the curb. He was with Wisconsin then, and Dabo Swinney was only getting started.

In the latter years of the BCS, NC State was able to beat Clemson handily in an ACC game.
