10 D/ST sleepers to target for fantasy football in Week 3
2. Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers
After registering three sacks in Week 1, the Bengals got three more sacks in Week 2 while holding the Chicago Bears to 14 offensive points. Week 3’s matchup puts them in a position to succeed
The Pittsburgh Steelers scored 16 offensive points in Week 1, then 17 in Week 2. They have not looked explosive, as Ben Roethlisberger continues to look pretty limited as a downfield passer (with NextGen Stats to prove it). Now, Roethlisberger’s status for Sunday against the Bengals is in question due to a left pectoral injury. The Najee Harris-led running game hasn’t gotten on track yet, with offensive line issues as the core theme all the way around. Roethlisberger is already expressing his displeasure with offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
The Bengals may be able to upset the Steelers on Sunday. Defending a limited Steelers’ offense, with or without Roethlisberger, won’t be much of a challenge.
1. Las Vegas Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins
After sacking Lamar Jackson three times and forcing two fumbles from him in Week 1, the Raiders held the Pittsburgh Steelers to 17 points with two sacks and an interception in Week 2. Week 3 looked like a good spot for this unit heading into the week, and now it’s even better.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a rib injury in Week 2, and he will miss Sunday’s game against the Raiders after an eventual confirmation of fractured ribs. Jacoby Brissett (169 yards, one interception and four sacks taken in Week 2) will start under center for the Dolphins.
It’s still hard to totally buy in to the Raiders’ defense as a fantasy option. But coordinator Gus Bradley has things on a good track. Facing a lackluster Dolphins’ offense that’s going to start a backup quarterback in Week 3 provides a nice combo of a high floor and a high ceiling.
