Ohio State football fans are eager to get a look at freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers, but theyāll have to wait because heās not likely to play vs. Akron.
Quinn Ewers should be playing high school football this weekend. Instead, heāll be on the sideline as Ohio State football takes on Akron.
Does the highly-touted five-star quarterback have a chance to see the field?
The simple answer is no.
Quinn Ewers wonāt play against Akron
The question makes sense because starting quarterback CJ Stroud is injured, and Ewers is the guy everyone wants to see. He was the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2021 even after he reclassified to enroll at Ohio State early.
Being able to reclassify doesnāt mean heās ready to play, though. Buckeye head coach Ryan Day told reporters this week that Ewers still has a lot of catching up to do.
āHeāll get a few reps [Tuesday], but I canāt sit here and tell you he gets enough reps to be able to prepare to play in a game right now,ā Day said per Austin Ward of Lettermen Row. āItās really impossible.ā
A day later, the head coach said unequivocally that Ewers would be āunavailable.ā
Ohio State is expected to start Kyle McCord, with Jack Miller also available. Stroud could play in an emergency role, which further signals how Day has no plans to throw Ewers out there just yet.
