Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger was so impressed by Bijan Robinson’s performance against Texas Tech, he thinks it was a Heisman statement.

Texas football hasn’t had a Heisman Trophy winner since Ricky Williams in 1998. Former quarterback Sam Ehlinger wants to see that change with another Longhorn running back.

After Bijan Robinson cut loose against Texas Tech, Ehlinger promoted him as a candidate for college football’s most prestigious award.

“Bijan Robinson should be in the Heisman conversation,” Ehlinger tweeted.

Robinson scored the first touchdown of the game on a 38-yard pass to convert a fourth down and more. His move to get free of the first defender was Heisman-worthy.

In the first quarter or so of action, Robinson had 60 yards rushing and 54 yards receiving. He averaged 10.3 yards per touch.

Of course, it’ll take more than a bright performance against the likes of Texas Tech to truly put Robinson in the Heisman conversation. It’s still early enough in the season that a whole host of players could make a run at it.

Going into Saturday’s game, Robinson had 299 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 5.75 yards per carry. If he keeps it up and puts in a top tier performance against Oklahoma in a few weeks, he’ll force others beside his former QB to recognize him.
