Will C.J. Stroud get his starting QB job back at Ohio State?
By Scott Rogust
Will Ohio State head coach Ryan Day make the switch back to quarterback C.J. Stroud once he heals from his injury?
The Ohio State Buckeyes began their season with C.J. Stroud as their starting quarterback. That featured plenty of ups and downs, including his opening week win over Minnesota and a shocking loss to Oregon immediately afterward.
Stroud was not under center for Ohio State this Saturday against the Akron Zips due to a shoulder injury. With the quarterback only intended to be used in an emergency situation, Ryan McCord earned the start.
That left many wondering if Day would revert back to Stroud as the starting signal-caller.
Will C.J. Stroud regain the starting job for Ohio State?
That is difficult to tell as of this writing. But if Saturday showed us anything, it is that McCord is not going to give up the job easily and will cause Day to make a rather difficult choice in the very near future.
At halftime, McCord completed 11-of-15 pass attempts for 229 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Buckeyes carry a 38-7 lead.
Ohio State held a notable quarterback competition throughout the offseason, and it was Stroud who emerged as the winner over McCord and Jack Miller. Through the first three games of the season, Stroud completed 62.4-percent of his passes for 963 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. Now due to an injury, that starting job may no longer be his, and he may have to make a decision regarding his future with the program.
The only way to find out for sure as to what the plan is for the Buckeyes is to keep your eyes and ears peeled for Day’s press conferences in the days leading up to next week’s game against Rutgers.
