There’s something different about Wisconsin’s helmets against Notre Dame. They have a banner featuring the motto “Forward” over the iconic W.

Were you wondering why the Wisconsin Badgers have the word “forward” across their helmets while playing Notre Dame?

You’re not alone and you’re in the right place.

The Badgers turned up for their Shamrock Series appearance sporting the unique helmets as part of their Forward collection.

Wisconsin forward: Badgers wear state motto on helmets

The state motto for Wisconsin is “Forward” so it’s all a tribute to the state the Badgers represent.

Forward also appears as theme on different parts of the jersey as well, including arm sleeves.

Elsewhere on the all-white uniforms, six stars represent a plaque honoring Wisconsin’s Union Army civil war training site.

The Badgers would do well to embrace the message of the state motto as they battle Notre Dame. They won’t get anywhere without moving forward against the Irish defense at Soldier Field.

It hasn’t always been easy for the Badgers to do that in 2021 so far. They managed to score just 10 points in the season opener against Penn State, but bounced back with a 34-7 win over Eastern Michigan.
