2021 NFL power rankings, Week 4: Cardinals rolling, Chiefs reeling
Off to a 0-2 start and with both losses coming at home, the Colts made their way south to take on the rival Titans at Nashville. Hurting quarterback Carson Wentz got the nod but the Indianapolis’ offense was kept in check – limited to one touchdown and settling for three field goals.
Wentz threw for only 194 yards and zero scores but the Colts did not commit a turnover. But the Tennessee ground attack rolled up 180 yards on Frank Reich’s squad.
Off a short week and an 18-point loss at Lambeau Field on Monday night, the Lions looked to get in the win column for the first time as they hosted the Ravens. And when they took a 17-16 lead with 1:04 to play, they appeared to be in the driver’s seat.
Who could have imagined that Baltimore veteran Justin Tucker – with an assist from the crossbar – would nail a 66-yard field goal at the gun? The Lions have lost seven straight games dating back to 2020.
A year ago, this was the second-ranked defensive unit in terms of total yards allowed. On Sunday at Orchard Park, Ron Rivera’s team surrendered 481 total yards and have up five offensive touchdowns. There were no sacks or takeaways by Washington.
Meanwhile, quarterback Taylor Heinicke ran for one touchdown and threw just as many TD passes as interceptions (2). The Football Team has allowed a combined 72 points in their last two games.
Rookie quarterback Davis Mills made his first NFL start as the Texans hosted the unbeaten Panthers on Thursday night. The young signal-caller had his ups and downs but Houston’s offensive line struggled to protect him as he was sacked four times and absorbed a total of nine hits.
David Culley’s team had the ball for only 24:15 and gained only 193 total yards. Wide receiver Brandin Cooks was a bright spot with nine receptions for 112 yards in the loss.
