Michael Kay’s call of huge Giancarlo Stanton home run was woefully bad (Video)

YES Network play-by-play commentator Michael Kay botched his call of Giancarlo Stanton’s home run during Tuesday’s game between the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.

MLB has now reached the final week of the 2021 season, meaning that the mad dash for the final playoff spots are underway. The New York Yankees are looking to clinch one of the two Wild Card spots, and have been on fire, as evidenced by their three-game sweep over the Boston Red Sox this past season. Plenty of credit belongs to Giancarlo Stanton, who was at it again during Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

In the top of the seventh inning, Stanton blasted a three-run homer to the second deck of the left field stands of the Rogers Centre to extend New York’s lead to 6-2. YES Network play-by-play commentator Michael Kay called the homer and insinuated that it was close to being a foul ball. But the homer was actually a good distance away from the left field foul pole.

Giancarlo Stanton continues hot streak for the Yankees

While Kay called it as though it would be a close call home run, it was actually a no-doubt, 421-foot shot by Stanton.

The Yankees slugger has been on a tear as of late. He single-handedly outscored the Red Sox by knocking in 10 runs in the three-game sweep, earning him AL Player of the Week as a result. Now, on Tuesday night, Stanton has now hit a home run in four-straight games.

New York went on to defeat the Blue Jays 7-2. With that victory and the Red Sox’s 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees now have a two-game lead for the top AL Wild Card spot with five games remaining on the schedule.

We shall see if Stanton can make it five games in a row with a home run on Wednesday night.
