With the postseason right around the corner, what has been the longest playoff game in MLB history?

Do you remember where you were the night of the 2018 World Series Game 3 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox? It’s okay if you were in a couple of places that night because that game lasted for nearly a third of the day,

Longest game in World Series history

Coming into Oct. 26, 2018, the Dodgers were down 2-0 to the Red Sox in the series to be atop of the MLB world, so, of course, the Dodgers were desperate. But so was Boston and that game reflected it. It took 18 rounds — innings for the Dodgers to come out on top to cut into the series deficit.

The first run of the game at the bottom of the third when Los Angeles’ Joc Pederson hit a single shot home run that broke the stalemate. Boston tied the game at the top of the eight with a single-run homer of their own by Jackie Bradley Jr. The ninth ended with the teams at 1-1. The next runs came in the 13th when the teams each scored a run.

Tied at 2-2, and with much of the sports world peeling their eyes to stay watching, Mike Muncy hit a walk-off home run at the bottom of the 18th to win the game for Los Angeles and get the series to 2-1.

While the Red Sox won the series, both teams made history with this long-lasting game. This set the record for the longest played World Series game in MLB history and tied for the longest playoff game ever as well. And at approximately 7 hours, 20 minutes played, this game has the record for longest time played in an MLB playoff game, according to MLB.com.
