It’s been a miserable start to the season for Clemson football fans but Kirk Herbstreit thinks it’s going to get a lot better.

Clemson already has lost twice this season and they haven’t even played a game in October. That’s been unheard of in the Dabo Swinney era but after losing to Georgia and NC State, Clemson is out of the College Football Playoff picture for the first time since 2014.

There are many reasons for the team struggling this year, but ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit thinks the worst is behind them and there is reason for optimism the rest of the season.

Kirk Herbstreit is optimistic Clemson will go undefeated rest of the season

On Saturday’s episode of College GameDay, Herbstreit looked at the remainder of the schedule Clemson will face and thinks they can run the table from her on out.

ā€œI don’t know if they play anybody on their schedule that when they take the field they feel like they don’t have a chance to win,ā€ Herbstreit said. ā€œIt’s not the teams we’ve seen in recent years.Ā Will Shipley, their running back, is out.Ā Lyn-J DixonĀ is in the transfer portal. They’re down toĀ Kobe Pace, Darien Rencher maybe gets a chance today. The offensive line, no matter who is out there, has had issues. D.J. (Uiagalelei) is going to have to be a willing runner. Just likeĀ Deshaun Watson, just likeĀ Trevor Lawrence, just likeĀ Tajh Boyd. He has to run the ball, just a little bit more. He’s run eight or nine times in the past couple weeks.

The running back depth has been challenged by injury and transfers but D.J. Uiagalalei is capable of picking up some of the slack and running from his quarterback position. The offensive line is going to have to give him some room with which to run, but the ACC schedule they face the next two months is a pathway to finishing the season on a high note.

ā€œI don’t think this season is over for Clemson,ā€ Herbstreit added. ā€œI think it’s almost as like they’re going to lose five games — I’d be shocked if they lose another game personally.ā€
