How far will Oregon fall in AP Top 25 after losing to Stanford?
By Scott Rogust
With their crushing overtime loss to the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, this is how far the Oregon Ducks will fall in the AP Top 25 next week.
The Oregon Ducks looked to have a 4-0 start season in the bag on Saturday evening. All they had to do was to stop Stanford on the final drive to call it day. Instead, a defensive holding call allowed Stanford to tie things up at 24 points apiece, leading to Oregon losing 31-24 in overtime.
With their first loss in the books and any chance of making the College Football Playoff disintegrating into thin air, many are wondering — how far the Ducks will fall in next week’s AP Top 25 rankings?
How far will Oregon fall in the new college football rankings?
Oregon was certainly given no favors on Saturday. The No. 5 Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Maryland 51-24 on Friday evening, the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners held on to beat the Kansas State Wildcats 37-31 and the No. 7 Cincinnati Bearcats earned a 24-13 win on the road against the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
While that is all bad news, the Ducks received a bit of a gift earlier in the day. Not only did Notre Dame lose, but the No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks, fresh off their win against Texas A&M last week, were blown out by the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs 37-0 on Saturday.
Taking all of that into consideration, the Ducks will take a tumble in the college football rankings on Sunday, but they will remain in the Top 10. The Ducks will likely fall to No. 9 or No. 10.
Sure, Oregon will need a ton to happen for them to have a shot at making the College Football Playoff at year’s end, but they will not suffer a steep fall due in part to them going to overtime against Stanford.
