The Texans aren’t the only ones who have been pushed into a corner because of misfortune at the quarterback spot. The Dolphins are in a similar situation because of an injury to Tua Tagovailoa.

With the starter on injured reserve, Miami has turned to Jacoby Brissett and it hasn’t gone well. Brissett is 0-3 as a starter this season and hasn’t shown close to what the Dolphins need out of their quarterback.

Miami had a short leash with Tagovailoa. If they applied the same standard to Brissett he’d already be benched.

The trouble comes down to the options behind. Reid Sinnett was elevated from the practice squad to back up Brissett and the second-year player is a complete unknown. He was excellent playing for San Diego in college but the NFL is a long way from the Pioneer Football League.

Tagovailoa could be back in a couple of weeks, so Brian Flores and company may not want to invest in a free agent signing for such a short stint. Still, if they can’t make a Deshaun Watson trade happen, maybe experimenting with Sinnett wouldn’t be the worst idea.
