Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave credit to the San Francisco Giants for winning the NL West title.

While the primary focus on Sunday was set on the manic chase for the two AL Wild Card spots, the NL West was yet to be determined. The Los Angeles Dodgers had the chance to force a tie-breaking game with the San Francisco Giants, but only if they beat the Milwaukee Brewers and the Giants lost to the San Diego Padres. While the Dodgers won, the Giants did as well to take the NL West title after winning 107 games.

After the 10-3 win on Sunday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave credit not only to his team for making it to the postseason, but for the rival Giants winning the division. Roberts paid the ultimate compliment to the Giants, saying that they “took” the division from them, rather than the Dodgers giving up the division.

With the Giants having a franchise-record 107 wins to win the NL West, that thus ended a lengthy streak for the Dodgers, who had won the title every year since 2013. Yet, the Dodgers did not make things easy for their counterparts, as they won 106 games in this campaign.

Now that the Dodgers finished in second-place, despite the high-amount of wins, their consolation prize is playing in the one-game Wild Card Round. To make matters that much more difficult, they have to face a St. Louis Cardinals team that clinched the final NL Wild Card berth after winning a franchise-record 17 consecutive games near the end of the season.

Meanwhile, the Giants will await the winner of the Dodgers-Cardinals win-or-go-home game for a best-of-five Division Series, since they hold the best record in the NL. To the victor, go the spoils.
