Red Sox: What Alex Cora, Rafael Devers said after clinching playoff berth
The Boston Red Sox are set to host the New York Yankees in the AL Wild Card game on Tuesday night.
Well, it’s official. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will play at Fenway Park on Tuesday in the AL Wild Card game. It came down to the last day of the MLB regular season as the Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals, 7-5, and the Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 1-0.
October baseball just got a lot more exciting.
Boston Red Sox, Alex Cora clinched playoff berth on Sunday
It was looking like the Red Sox would be in a play-in game on Monday night after they were down to the Nationals, 5-1, in the fifth inning. Boston came back to tie the game at five in the seventh inning and thanks to a two-run homer by Rafael Devers in the top of the ninth inning, the Red Sox secured the home field advantage against the Yankees.
Cora on no Game 163: "When this thing was in our hands-you win and you're in-you believe in the team. You believe in the group. It didn't look promising at the beginning, you still feel like yeah, we have a shot. Avoiding all that mess, great. Now we've got the Yankees at home."

New York swept Boston at Fenway Park last weekend, so the Red Sox have the chance to get back at the Yankees in a one-game series.
It’s been a long ride for Boston this season and it didn’t look like the team would make it to where they are now.

Devers finished the day with two home runs in a four-hit, four-RBI performance. He came up big for the Red Sox and will hopefully be able to carry that same energy over to Tuesday night.
The berth marks Boston’s first time playing in the Wild Card game in franchise history and it’s against New York? It’s on.
