3 quarterbacks the Steelers should replace Big Ben with

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a Ben Roethlisberger problem this season. Here are three quarterbacks that should replace the former two-time Super Bowl champion.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were already making a risk in 2021 by bringing back quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for another season. Last year, there were signs that the two-time Super Bowl champion’s arm was no longer the same. Yet, they wanted to give it another go.
Things have gone disastrously so far this season, and it was highlighted during Pittsburgh’s 27-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Roethlisberger completed 26-of-40 pass attempts for 232 yards, one touchdown and one interception while also losing a fumble on a sack.
With the rest of the AFC North looking very competitive (yes even the Cincinnati Bengals), the Steelers have to make a tough choice if they want to compete this year. They will have to bench Roethlisberger and find a replacement. Here are three options that the Steelers should consider to make the starting quarterback.
3. Gardner Minshew
The Jacksonville Jaguars used their first-overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft on Clemson superstar quarterback Trevor Lawrence. That meant Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville’s 2019 sixth-round draft pick, would be relegated to backup. Instead, new head coach Urban Meyer decided to trade him elsewhere. That new destination turned out to be the Philadelphia Eagles, where he is the third signal caller on the depth chart behind Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco.
The former Washington State signal caller showed potential through his first two years in the league. In 23 games, Minshew completed 62.9-percent of his passes for 5,530 yards, 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Considering that Minshew is unlikely to receive any playing time in Philadelphia this year unless Hurts or Flacco were to be injured, the Steelers should give the Eagles a call to see what it would take to acquire him in a trade.
