4. Bruce Bochy, former San Francisco Giants manager

Bochy is favored to become the next Padres manager, should they fire Jayce Tingler. The three-time World Series champion has experience in San Diego, and would welcome a return to managing at his former stomping grounds.

However, if the Mets want to swing big, this is how Cohen can do so. Bochy is an experienced manager who would instantly bring credibility and respect to a Mets locker room which desperately needs it.

The culture in Queens could use some work as well. With the likes of Lindor and Javy Baez running the clubhouse, Bochy is an established baseball mind who could right the ship almost instantaneously.

3. Eduardo Perez, former MLB player and ESPN analyst

Perez received a second interview the last time the Mets had an open managerial position, only to lose out on the in-house choice in Rojas. Perhaps the Mets might admit they were wrong about Rojas in the first place, and give him the opportunity he never had in 2019.

At one time a “clear frontrunner” for the job, Perez offers plenty of major league experience, both as a player and coach. He’s stayed around the game as a color commentator at ESPN. He also won a Puerto Rican league title in 2014 as the manager of Cangrejeros de Santurce.

The 52-year-old would be a surprising choice given some of the experienced managers out there, but if the Mets want to think outside of the box rather than spend big money on Bochy or Buck Showalter, Perez is the guy.
