Special Olympics announces newest global ambassadors
Special Olympics announced two of its newest global ambassadors on Monday.
Special Olympics now has two new global ambassadors — actor Chris Pratt and author Katherine Schwarzenegger. The couple made the decision to join forces with Special Olympics to advocate for the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.
Schwarzenegger’s grandmother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founded Special Olympics in 1968.
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger are the newest Special Olympics Global Ambassadors
Pratt and Schwarzenegger are officially global ambassadors for Special Olympics and Katherine is following in her grandmother’s footsteps:
"“Special Olympics has always been a huge part of my life. My grandmother dedicated her entire existence to being an advocate for those with special needs and my childhood consisted of going to SOI events and my cousins and I being camp counselors at Camp Shriver.”"
Schwarzenegger’s past is rooted in the mission of the Special Olympics and she’s a valuable contribution to the case. She’s the New York Times best-selling author of The Gift of Forgiveness.
Pratt is set to begin filming a new Marvel Studios movie in November. The team has committed to hiring a Special Olympics athlete to fill a Production Assistant role. The position will be both full-time and paid. Marvel Studios employees will also undergo a training program instructed by Special Olympics.
Chris commented on his ambassador status:
"“I’m continually amazed by the bravery and spirit of these wonderful athletes. I stand by Special Olympics on their quest make the world a better, healthier and more joyful place—one athlete, one volunteer, one family member at a time.”"
The ambassador two-year term for Pratt and Schwarzenegger will begin in October of 2021.
