Texas A&M injury report: Will Haynes King play vs. Alabama?
Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Haynes King continues to recover from a leg injury.
The Texas A&M Aggies take on the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide this Saturday in primetime. Attempting to pull off the upset, all eyes will be on whether Aggies’ quarterback Haynes King will make his return.
King, who opened the season as the starter for the Aggies, went down with a right leg injury in the Week 2 win against Colorado. He was diagnosed with a fractured ankle and had surgery to repair it. His timeline was set for him to return in mid-October, and it seems as if that is still the case as the Aggies will have to take on the Tide without King.
Texas A&M has lost two straight games with Zach Calzada starting in place of the injured King.
At Monday’s media availability, Jimbo Fisher said King is engaged and eager to return, but he’s still recovering from the injury.
“We’ll make sure he’s fully healthy, but he’s progressing. Fisher said. His mind is into every game plan and meeting.”
Haynes King injury update: Zach Calzada will start vs. Alabama
When King went down, Texas A&M was No. 5 and 2-0. Since then, the Aggies are 1-2, suffering consecutive losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State.
They have also slid completely out of the top 25 and any shot at the College Football Playoff is gone.
Having already suffered a heartbreaking injury and two disappointing defeats, the Aggies are in the midst of an underwhelming season.
Considering their fate, it is unlikely that they will rush their young redshirt freshman quarterback onto the field before he is ready.
Texas A&M should not want to put King at any further risk of injury with nothing on the line. Any moves made will likely be with the future of King and the program in mind. Expect to see King back later in the season as the Aggies prepare to build for next year.
Calzada threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns in the win vs. New Mexico but has gone a combined 32-of-56 for 286 yards with one touchdown (and one rushing touchdown) and two interceptions in the losses to Arkansas and Missippi State, respectively.
Now, he gets No. 1 Alabama.
