ESPN’s broadcasting crew initially thought Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run over the Green Monster. He only hit a single.

Things are underway between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees in the AL Wild Card game and Giancarlo Stanton was able to hit a very impressive single in the first inning.

Unfortunately for Stanton, and for the ESPN broadcast crew calling the game, it seems like they all thought that single was actually going to be a home run.

Instead, the Green Monster kept the Yankees from scoring off Stanton’s swing. Nathan Eovaldi was quickly able to recover, notching an out thanks to Gleyber Torres.

Between the botched Boston Red Sox lineup graphic and now this, things could certainly be better for the “Worldwide Leader in Sports.” But hey, in all fairness, that did look a bit like a home run when it first came off the bat.

As if having Alex Rodriguez in the broadcast booth wasn’t bad enough, ESPN is helping maintain their reputation that they don’t know baseball in the slightest.
