Washington called for dubious roughing the passer

If you claim to know what roughing the passer is, I submit to you the following example:

First off, Chase Young was held on the play as he ran after Matt Ryan. Second, Ryan didn’t even fall to the turf. And third, he got the throw off front one knee! What the hell is going on?

Young’s contact with Ryan appeared to be in the shoulder area, rather than helmet to helmet. His attempted tackle was not dangerous in the slightest, and made very little contact with Ryan — so much so, in fact, that the Falcons quarterback was still able to get the throw away.

The issue with roughing the passer isn’t the idea — quarterbacks do need to be protected. Rather, it’s the implementation and lack of consistency from officials around the league.
