With this ridiculous comebacker catch, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright might really be a magician.

Some things will never change. For example, St. Louis Cardinals’ starting pitcher Adam Wainwright is back to doing ridiculous things at the mound. He closed out the first inning of Tuesday night’s Wild Card game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with an absolutely unreal catch.

Facing his fourth batter of the night in Justin Turner, Wainwright ripped an 84-MPH cutter towards the outside that was just in reach for Turner. The third-baseman made contact and recoiled the ball at over 100-MPH back to the pitcher who somehow, someway grabbed the ball with his glove just inches before it collided with his face.

After making the catch to close the inning, Wainwright walked off the mound showing the ball in his hand like a magician showing the coin that he just made appear out of nowhere.

The catch wowed just about everyone at Dodger Stadium, and might have even impressed Cardinals’ catcher Yadier Molina. This is the 15th time Wainwright and Molinda have paired up in a playoff game for St. Louis.

As ridiculous as this was, Wainwright’s not a stranger to these moments. The two-time Gold Glove pitcher has made a career of dazzling throws and catches. The absurd catch was just the latest of magic tricks from the 40-year-old ace who is seeking to claim his second World Series title in his 16-year career.

Wainwright just might be a wizard.
