Oklahoma vs. Texas: 3 bold predictions, including final score and winner
By John Buhler
In the signature game of the early-afternoon window, Oklahoma will face Texas in Red River.
It is Red River Week in the Big 12, as No. 6 Oklahoma will take on No. 21 Texas in the Cotton Bowl.
While the Sooners are still undefeated, Lincoln Riley’s team has been almost upset on multiple occasions. Though Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns were embarrassed by old Southwest rival Arkansas a few weeks ago, they responded with big wins over in-state rivals Texas Tech and TCU to get back to 4-1 on the season. Of course, Red River is their most important game of the year.
Here are three bold predictions to look forward to in the latest installment of Red River.
Red River Showdown: 3 bold predictions for Oklahoma vs. Texas in 2021
3. Casey Thompson outplays Spencer Rattler at the quarterback position
This will not be the deciding factor in the game, but it will play a part in the outcome. Look for Texas quarterback Casey Thompson to have one of his best games to date, as he plays up to the level of Spencer Rattler. Though the Oklahoma quarterback had No. 1 overall pick potential entering this season, his erratic play will cost the Sooners games, now and into the future.
2. Bijan Robinson provides Longhorns with another Heisman-level performance
Last week was no joke. While Texas running back Bijan Robinson is not going to eviscerate the Sooners defense to the degree he stomped the Horned Frogs’, he will have another Heisman Trophy performance out of the Longhorns backfield. Look for him to rush for over 150 yards and hit pay dirt twice. It is quickly becoming his Doak Walker Award to lose. Robinson shines Saturday.
1. Steve Sarkisian gets his first signature win as Texas Longhorns head coach
Oklahoma has been eking out one close win after another. Though the Sooners have embraced the just win Saturday mantra like no other, Texas is too good for them to win just because they are Oklahoma. A few dumb turnovers will cost the favored Sooners in this game. Robinson and Thompson help give Sarkisian his first signature win as the head coach of the Texas football.
Prediction: Texas 34, Oklahoma 31.
