College football upset pick No. 3: Michigan Wolverines

Rank: 9 | Opponent: at Nebraska Cornhuskers | Time: Saturday, Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m. ET

Starting the season at 5-0, I’m fully in on the Michigan Wolverines and this being the best team that Jim Harbaugh has put on the field. They may not have the stars all over the field that they have seen over the years but the versatility on both sides of the ball and the seeming stability that they’ve displayed in a relatively dominant start to the year has me believing.

Naturally, that means they’re definitely going to lose sometime soon. And a road trip to Nebraska could be a highly difficult spot to get a win. That might sound crazy but that’s largely because the perception of the Cornhuskers doesn’t match the reality of what they are.

When Scott Frost’s team lost to Illinois in Week 0, the Huskers program was raked over the coals. All they’ve done since then, though, is submit quality performances. They blew out Fordham, Buffalo and Northwestern and played Oklahoma and Michigan State within one score. This defense is 100 percent legitimate and, while the offense has plenty of flaws, it’s capable.

Michigan is rightly favored to win this game on the road but this is a definite letdown spot where they could get upset. If the Wolverines are put in a position where they can’t run the ball effectively, Cade McNamara could make mistakes and Nebraska could string together enough explosive plays to change the misguided perception of the Huskers.
