The MLB tweeted out a Tom Brady based post to excite fans for the ALDS and it did not go over well.

Thursday, both of the American League Divisional Series played the first game of the series. One of the ALDS matchups is between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox.

Something those two cities have in common is that Tom Brady played for each’s respective pro football team, the New England Patriots and now the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. MLB’s social team tried to make note of this fact by calling it the “TB12” series and it did nit go over well with fans on Twitter.

Baseball fans of all teams were disgusted. With two quality baseball teams set to face off in the postseason, fans saw it as weird and an unnecessary reference to make. It did drive the engagement for the official MLB account but it was mostly fans in the comments and quotes letting them know that they should have left this tweet in the drafts.

This is just a few of the 1,607 and counting quote tweets and 931 comments, many of which all expressing displeasure with the tweet. From unnecessarily bringing up Brady to the critiques of not marketing MLB players well enough, Twitter users game the MLB account plenty of feedback.

As for the actual game, the Rays won 5-0 over the Red Sox. They return to Tropicana Field tonight for Game 2 with first pitch scheduled for 7:02 p.m. ET.
