The Red Sox got off to a great start in Game 2, and decided to boast about that first-inning performance on Twitter. Unfortunately, the Rays came to bat.
Despite having their ace on the mound, the Red Sox faced an early deficit to the favored Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2. Should the Red Sox lose, they’d face an arguably insurmountable 0-2 hole heading back to Boston.
The Sox don’t necessarily have to take one game in Tampa Bay, but doing so makes the task of upsetting the Rays easier in a five-game series. Sadly for Boston, it doesn’t seem like that dream will become their reality unless the offense wakes up.
Boston’s first-inning tweet is an obvious freezing cold take.
We're having a pretty good time here in the 1st.

Sale Day ended very quickly.
The Rays had a crafty response ready, as well.

Red Sox: Chris Sale not playing up to his ace potential
Sale didn’t look like his normal self at the end of the season, as he dealt with injury issues in his last start against the Baltimore Orioles. Boston would lose that game.
Alex Cora left Sale off the team’s Wild Card game roster and still managed to defeat the New York Yankees. Coming into a much tougher task in Tampa, they needed a vintage start from their ace to shut down the best team in the American League.
That did not occur.

Jordan Luplow took Sale deep, and the Sox quickly removed him from the game. Tanner Houck replaced Sale in the game, as the Red Sox try to keep Game 2 within reach.
