Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 6: No. 2-1
2. Iowa Hawkeyes
As mentioned, prior to Clifford leaving the game for the Nittany Lions, things were looking pretty dire for the Hawkeyes. Spencer Petras and the offense couldnāt get much of anything going and the defense, though still creating turnovers, wasnāt getting enough stops. But when the opportunity presented itself on Saturday, they took advantage and got the come-from-behind win.
It should be said that Iowa deserves credit for mounting the comeback, even if the circumstances did ultimately fall in their favor. With that being said, Petras made some big plays down the stretch and this defense is obviously one of the best that college football has to offer. Still, you have to wonder when the lack of relative explosiveness from the offense is going to bite them.
1. Georgia Bulldogs
For whatever reason, one of the narratives that started to crop up around Georgia was that their defense was obviously good but they also hadnāt played a great offense yet. Moreover, there were still some concerns about the offense with Stetson Bennett. But anyone thinking that ultimately just looked foolish as Kirby Smartās Bulldogs once again went out and dominated a ranked team.
Playing at Auburn, they allowed a big opening drive but there wasnāt much else working for the Tigers offense. They had answers for Bo Nix and Tank Bigsby consistently and were able to move the ball in any way they wanted, including some big plays from Bennett. The Dawgs continue to make their case that they should be the No. 1-ranked team in college football ā so weāre giving them that nod.
