Dick Vitale sees a bright future ahead of emerging Notre Dame football star Tyler Buchner.

During a tight ball game vs. Virginia Tech, Notre Dame football player Tyler Buchner caught the attention of none other than ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale.

This was going to be a transitional year at the quarterback position in South Bend with Ian Book turning pro. Though Jack Coan has had his moments under center for the Golden Domers, Buchner is the blue-chip prospect Brian Kelly and the rest of the Fighting Irish can get excited about. While only a true freshman, Buchner is already turning heads the likes of Vitale in a big primetime spot.

When Dickie V refers to a player as a “Diaper Dandy”, baby, it means he is one fantastic freshman.

Buchner will get some run in his true freshman season, but the Californian native is the bright future of the quarterback position at Notre Dame beginning in 2022. While Book won prolifically in South Bend, the Irish have not had a guy who could really spin it since Brady Quinn played for them over a decade ago. If Buchner is the next Quinn at Notre Dame, this is fantastic news.

It may not be Notre Dame’s year in 2021, but Buchner offers them a ton of promise in 2022.
