Ohio State football: Don’t look now but C.J. Stroud is making a Heisman run
By Ethan Lee
Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud is playing well enough to start earning some attention as a Heisman candidate.
The Ohio State Buckeyes had some questions early on about their starting quarterback, but C.J. Stroud sure looks sharp as of late. It’s about time that Heisman voters start paying closer attention to his performances.
Against Rutgers a week ago, Stroud played well, completing 73.9 percent of his passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns. Most importantly, the Ohio State quarterback didn’t throw a single interception.
Now, as Ohio State faces Maryland, Stroud and the Buckeyes offense have been dominant. Against the Terrapins, Stroud has completed 24-of-33 passes for 406 yards and another five touchdowns. These sorts of showcases will be what Stroud needs if he hopes to make some noise in the 2021 Heisman Trophy race.
Could Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud end up garnering some significant attention as a possible Heisman candidate?
Stroud is playing really well right now, but there are several Heisman contenders he’ll have to go up against. It won’t be easy for him to garner attention with guys like Texas running back Bijan Robinson, Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral, and Alabama quarterback Bryce Young out there. Any of those three players could also make a serious run at this year’s Heisman.
But, Stroud is talented, the Buckeyes have surrounded him with remarkable skill players, and there will be plenty of chances for big, statement wins ahead on the schedule. If Stroud continues to play like this, Heisman voters can’t afford to overlook him.
