The Minnesota Vikings may look to the draft to find a replacement for Kirk Cousins, but one option is coming off the board with Spencer Rattler struggling.
If the Vikings are ready to move on from Kirk Cousins, the obvious path would be to take a quarterback in the early rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.
On Saturday, one option basically took himself out of the running.
Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler looked like one of the best QB prospects on the board for 2022 before the season. Now, he’ll be lucky to even be mentioned in the draft.
Spencer Rattler’s struggles disqualify him from Vikings draft pick
Rattler was benched by the Sooners during their game with Texas. It was a long time coming too since fans had been calling for Caleb Williams to replace the starter for weeks.
Now, Rattler’s future is shrouded in mystery. It was assumed he wouldn’t return to Oklahoma next year because he’d be in the pros. It’s now more likely he’ll seek a transfer with another year in college aimed at restoring his high draft stock.
For the Vikings, that means one less option for them so consider when looking at quarterbacks for the future.
It’s ultimately a good thing. Better for Rattler to reveal his flaws now than for Minnesota to take him and end up with a highly-drafted dud.
