Super middleweight Edgar Berlanga survived a round 9 knockdown but defeated Marcelo Esteban Coceres via unanimous decision.
Most were expecting super middleweight upstart Edgar Berlanga to have an easy time with Marcelo Esteban Coceres on the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 undercard, but that wasn’t the case.
Berlanga (18-0, 16 KOs) had a 16 fight round 1 KO streak going not long ago, but he went the distance for the second time of his career and looked very mortal in the process.
Berlanga got off to a hot start against Coceres, but he started to eat punches from the midpoint of the fight on. Coceres proved to have a chin and began to give Berlanga problems.

Edgar Berlanga looked human against Marcelo Esteban Coceres on the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 undercard
In round 9, Coceres caught Berlanga with an overhand counter right that dropped Berlanga. He got to his feet, but his invisibility air of invincibility was gone.
Coceres (30-3-1, 16 KOs) hurt Berlanga on several occasions but still lost a unanimous decision. However, he tarnished Berlanga’s reputation and showed the Berlanga has many vulnerabilities.
Berlanga needs several more fights to improve his deficits before he’s ready to challenge top-tier super middleweights.
