During Wisconsin’s 24-0 win over Illinois on Saturday, tight end Jake Ferguson enters the Badgers’ history books.

The Wisconsin Badgers have had a bad two-week stretch after they lost decisively to Top 25-ranked teams in Notre Dame and Michigan. But as it turns out, playing Illinois is exactly what the Badgers needed, as they cruised to a 24-0 win.

In the win, tight end Jake Ferguson has officially broken a record. The senior has now recorded a catch in 39 consecutive games, the longest stretch of games by any Wisconsin player.

Who previously held Wisconsin’s consecutive games with a catch record?

The previous record was held by Lee Evans, who in his four years playing for the Badgers, caught 75 passes for 3,468 yards and 27 touchdowns. Evans went on to be selected with the 13th-overall pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2004 NFL Draft. Evans spent seven seasons with the Bills and one lone campaign with the Baltimore Ravens in 2011.

In the win on Saturday, Ferguson’s lone reception on the day arrived on a 13-yard pass from Graham Mertz. That helped the tight end officially clinch the record.

On the season, the senior tight end recorded 16 catches for 131 yards. In his career, Ferguson posted 115 receptions for 1,415 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Ferguson will look to extend the school record next weekend when Wisconsin takes on Army.
