More emails sent by Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden have surfaced and they feature homophobic and misogynistic language.
A Wall Street Journal reports found that now Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden used racist language regarding NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith in an email sent back in 2011. Now, more emails have surfaced, and they are troublesome.
In a New York Times article published on Monday, a separate league investigation found Gruden’s emails, and they featured homophobic and misogynistic comments.
According to the emails reviewed by the New York Times, Gruden “denounced the emergence of women as referees, the drafting of a gay player and the tolerance of players protesting during the playing of the national anthem.”
The emails were sent to then-Washington Football Team president Bruce Allen while Gruden was a commentator for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

In the emails, Gruden took aim at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who he called a “f—-t” and a “clueless anti football pussy,” per the New York Times. Additionally, Gruden said that Goodell should not have pressured then-St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher to draft “queers,” which is in reference to the team selecting Michael Sam in the seventh-round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Gruden took aim at former San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid, who kneeled during the national anthem, saying that he should be fired.

After Gruden’s email regarding Smith leaked, Raiders owner Mark Davis released a statement condemning the head coaches language. Despite that, Gruden did coach in this past Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Gruden said after the game that he did not have a racist bone in his body.
Shortly after this story dropped, Gruden informed his coaching staff that he was resigning as Raiders head coach, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
