3 Brewers who won’t be back after NLDS disappointment

The Milwaukee Brewers’ 2021 season has come to an end after falling to the Atlanta Braves in four games in the NLDS. Here are three players who likely won’t be back next season.

The Milwaukee Brewers‘ plans to make it to the World Series for the first time since 1982 have fallen short yet again. Despite long having hold of the NL Central division, the Brewers ran into the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS. Their season reached its end in Game 4, as they lost 5-4 following a solo home run by Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman.

With their season coming to an end, the Brewers will undoubtedly experience some changes on their roster, whether that is by their own doing or by free agency. Here are three members of the Brewers who likely won’t be back for the 2022 season.

Eduardo Escobar

The Brewers have a choice to make with Eduardo Escobar, their trade deadline acquisition. After spending the first half of the season with the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks, Escobar was brought to Milwaukee to increase their chances of clinching the NL Central and hopefully make a deep run in the playoffs.

Escobar played in 48 regular-season games with the Brewers, where he slashed .268/.342/.458 while recording six home runs, 25 RBI and 48 hits.

Come postseason time, Escobar was phased out of the starting lineup in favor of Luis Urias and became a bench option for manager Craig Counsell. He did not receive the start in Games 3 or 4 of the NLDS. Through his four appearances, Escobar went 3-for-10, where he recorded one double and struck out five times.

Escobar is among the top third basemen available in free agency who do not have a player or club option attached to them. It is entirely feasible that Escobar signs elsewhere this winter.
