Golden State Warriors: Is Klay Thompson still good?

Thompson was a clear All-NBA player during the Warriors dynasty of just a few seasons ago. It’s fair to wonder whether or not he’s anything close to that level of player after missing two seasons due to injury.

The good news for Golden State is that they have enough depth on the wing to bring Thompson back into the fold slowly. Andrew Wiggins isn’t perfect but he’s serviceable at that spot. An Otto Porter renaissance by the Bay isn’t out of the question.

It’s still clear that the Warriors need Thompson to, at the very least, play like an above-average starter if they want to be a serious player in the Western Conference. They need a high-level shooter to create space for Steph Curry on offense. That used to be Thompson’s specialty.

The large potential variance in Thompson’s contributions for the Warriors this season makes him the make-or-break player for Steve Kerr’s squad. Betting on such a big injury question mark isn’t s solid way to build a title contender.
