Los Angeles Lakers: Will the Lakers commit to Anthony Davis at center?

LeBron James is the Lakers’ best player, but Anthony Davis might be the team’s most important individual piece. This needs to be the reason when Frank Vogel firmly establishes Davis as both the team’s starting and finishing center.

Granted, closing the game with Davis at the 5 is far more important than starting him at that spot. Playing Davis at center makes the Lakers a juggernaut on both ends of the floor.

On offense, he can space the half-court offense with his jump shooting ability while also crashing in for offensive rebounds. He’s far too quick for most conventional centers to handle off the dribble and he’s too big for small-ball 5s to handle.

Davis’ impact is even more significant on the defensive end of the floor. He’s a top-notch rim protector who also possesses the quickness to contain smaller players off the dribble. That makes him an ideal center with any other combination of players Vogel wants to trot out in crunch time.

Davis may not want to be a center full-time, but that’s his best position. This should be the season where everyone acknowledges that reality out in the open.
