Dusty Baker provides injury update on Game 2 starter Luis Garcia

Houston Astros skipper Dusty Baker provided an update on injured starting pitcher Luis Garcia.

In the aftermath of Game 2’s 9-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker offered some clarity on the injury that led to Luis Garcia’s premature exit from the ballgame.

Garcia only threw 33 pitches in one-plus innings for Houston, allowing five earned runs on two hits and three walks. He gave way to Jake Odorizzi, much to the chagrin of Baker. While Houston did eventually make a game of it, being down 8-0 super early led to Boston evening the best-of-seven ALCS at a game apiece. Here is what Baker said regarding the health of his injured starter.

Not only was the injury to Garcia’s push-off leg, but his early exit has ruined the Astros’ postseason starting rotation plans as well. They were going to go with Odorizzi in Game 4, but he went four innings on Saturday in an emergency.

While the Astros are going to figure out what is wrong with Garcia’s injury leg, Houston is not officially ruling him out for the rest of the series just yet. Though Houston could make a roster move if it wanted to, doing so would mean Garcia would be out for the rest of the ALCS, and possibly the World Series should the Astros advance. They are still three games left to be played.

After eking out a Game 1 win over the Red Sox, Boston has seized the momentum from Houston.
