LSU is looking to replace Ed Orgeron as its head coach. Here are five of the most unrealistic candidates for the gig.

With Ed Orgeron vacating the LSU head coaching job by the time this season comes to a close, plenty of big names will be attached to the coaching search. But, just because some big names are floated around with this opening, that doesn’t mean everyone will be a perfect fit for this job.

Who are some fairly unrealistic candidates that might get some traction as this coaching search officially gets going?

No. 5: Chris Petersen

It’s been a couple seasons since Chris Petersen surprisingly stepped away from coaching college football. Would he be interested in a possible return if LSU came calling. Petersen has an extensive coaching pedigree and was brilliant at both Boise State and Washington, so just imagine all that he could accomplish if he had the resources LSU would provide. However, outside of a brief stint at Pitt, Petersen’s coaching experience has all come while he was out west. Would he want to be in Baton Rouge?

No. 4: Dabo Swinney

It seems as if Dabo Swinney, at this point, is synonymous with Clemson football. While the Tigers are in the midst of a fairly uncharacteristically rough season in 2021, Swinney has accomplished quite a bit during his time with Clemson. Would he be willing to leave that to go coach LSU? That seems unlikely. Swinney is already paid a handsome salary each and every season and has an fairly easy path to conference championships and the college football playoffs each year. It’s a bit tougher to win in the SEC, especially once Texas and Oklahoma and up joining.
