Ed Orgeron’s next job is way too obvious

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron’s next coaching job is more obvious than you would think.

With Ed Orgeron parting ways with the LSU football program at the end of the season, everybody and their brother is curious as to where he could end up.

Orgeron is not even two years removed from winning a national title at LSU. While his initial stab as a head coach at Ole Miss crapped out, he was excellent as the USC interim and won a ton of games in Baton Rouge for the Bayou Bengals. Though not every Power Five university will want to hire him to lead their program at this time, there is one place he is very familiar with that should.

Here is why the Miami football program would be crazy not to bring Coach O’s talents to South Beach.

There is a very strong possibility the Miami Hurricanes gig opens up at the end of the season. Halfway through the 2021 campaign, Miami is 2-4 and head coach Manny Diaz finds himself on the hot seat. Though Miami has not been The U for some time, this is a program that can flourish historically with the right head coach at the helm. Orgeron can crush recruiting in South Florida.

More importantly, Orgeron served as Miami’s defensive line coach during the glory days from 1988 to 1992. He was on Jimmy Johnson and later Dennis Erickson’s staffs before personal issues derailed his coaching career. Before it hit the fan for him in Coral Gables, Orgeron coached NFL stars such as Cortez Kennedy, Russell Maryland and Warren Sapp, as well as WWE star The Rock.

Outside of one good year under Mark Richt, Miami has been essentially a dead program for the better part of two decades. It has been a long time since the 2002 BCS National Championship game. By hiring someone like Orgeron, Miami will not only get back to relevance in the ACC Coastal, but will start winning ACC Conference championships. Coach O to The U makes sense.

While Orgeron may be out of work next year, all it takes is one program to give him another shot.
