3. Top fantasy football pickups for Week 7 – Chicago Bears WR Darnell Mooney

We’ve mentioned Darnell Mooney in this space before and his growing rapport with Justin Fields is extremely encouraging. Fields looked Mooney’s way eight times today, tying a season-high in targets, and Mooney converted five of those receptions into 45 yards while finding the end zone for the first time this season.

Defenses are forced to pay a ton of attention to Allen Robinson, opening up plenty of space for Mooney to work against opposing cornerbacks. Mooney has also carved out a consistent role in Chicago’s offense, seeing at least seven targets in four of the Bears’ first six games.

There is still plenty to be desired in terms of play-calling from Chicago but Mooney is locked into an enviable position for fantasy owners seeking flex options. Mooney is rostered in 44 percent of Yahoo leagues, a number that has started to tick upwards in recent weeks, so this may well be the last call to get Mooney on your squad.

Week 7 also offers a good matchup for Mooney as the Bears take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ banged-up secondary in a game that Chicago should be trailing. That scenario should lead to a lot of targets for Mooney, who could rack up some solid yardage and a garbage-time spike for good measure.
