The Tennessee Vols had an insanely loud crowd as they hosted Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday.
For those who keep up with SEC football, it’s no surprise that the Tennessee Vols have one of the largest stadiums in the country. Tennessee has a large, passionate fanbase that has celebrated their team and its history for a very long time.
When you get a ton of people together for anything, they have the potential to make a lot of noise. That seems to be especially true in college football. Because of the sheer number of Tennessee fans congregated in Neyland Stadium and the intensity of their game against the Ole Miss Rebels, they were able to set a new stadium record for the loudest crowd.
#VolNation set a record for Neyland Stadium on Saturday, October 16, 2021, with an ear-splitting 118 dB. The loudest sound ears can withstand without pain or is dangerous for more than 30 seconds is 120 dB.@coachjoshheupel asked us to be loud. We delivered.#GBO 🍊 pic.twitter.com/d5vXJAA5f5

You need to check this out. It’s insane how loud Neyland Stadium got on Saturday while Ole Miss was in town.

Give this video a watch to hear how it sounded from my POV 😳 https://t.co/ojJXnf80tE pic.twitter.com/fVHZ68u24i
Unfortunately for Vols fans at the game, their team didn’t come out on top. Ole Miss was able to sneak out of Neyland Stadium with a 31-26 win.
In addition to that, unfortunately for the Vols, this record isn’t what most folks outside of Knoxville will remember this game for. In addition to the loss, things got weird towards the end of the game. Tennessee fans, upset with a call made by referees, ended up tossing trash out onto the field. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was hit with a golf ball, of all things, in the process.
The SEC has fined Tennessee for the late game shenanigans and the internet had a field day making memes about the incident, but at least Tennessee fans will be able to celebrate their new record for being loud.
