Atlanta Braves starter Max Fried hit Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Trea Turner with a pitch in Game 5 of the NLCS on Thursday.
The Atlanta Braves were on a mission to end the NLCS on Thursday night with a Game 5 victory. Atlanta took an early 2-0 lead on a Freddie Freeman home run, but it all disappeared in the bottom of the second inning after starting pitcher Max Fried surrendered three runs on two homers by A.J. Pollock and Chris Taylor.
With the Braves trailing 3-2 and Cody Bellinger on first, Fried threw what appeared to be a no-look pitch and plunked Dodgers second baseman Trea Turner. But as it turns out, Fried looked over at Bellinger, who was way off first base, mid-pitch!

Turner was hit in the shoulder by Fried’s pitch and after getting looked at by members of the Dodgers training staff, remained in the game.
In terms of the play itself, if Fried had thrown the ball to Freeman at first base, Bellinger would have been caught out. That is how far off the bag the outfielder was. Fried instead chose to throw it to home plate, and it resulted in the plunking.
Fried eventually gout of the jam on the very next at-bat, after forcing shortstop Corey Seager to ground out.
