Tampa Bay Buccaneers

What do the Buccaneers and Chiefs have in common?

Besides a Super Bowl LV appearance, the two teams. are starting to develop the same problem: a lacking secondary letting opponents rack up points upon points.

For the Bucs, the situation was a bit different at the outset. This was the same defense that held the Chiefs to just nine points in the Super Bowl this February and prevented Mahomes from ever reaching the end zone. But after the Bucs historically resigned all of their 22 starters, their defensive players began to drop like flies. The Bucs have hardly retained their starting defensive roster, and their secondary was hit hard by the injury bug.

Sean Murphy-Bunting, Curtis Riley and Carlton Davis all remain on IR, while Richard Sherman is listed as “Out” in Week 7.

The Bucs knew they needed help, which is why they enlisted Richard Sherman, but even he hasn’t been enough to stop the defensive hemorrhaging. They may be 5-1, but having no defense definitely won’t win any championships.

Tampa Bay could choose to pluck from the Texans and take Vernon Hargreaves III to finish out the year, or they could take former Todd Bowles student Marcus Maye to come help out on the back end.
