Caleb Williams savvy play had fans reminiscing when Ed Reed did it first
By John Buhler
Caleb Williams goes full-blown Ed Reed at The U to lead the Oklahoma football team to victory.
History tends to repeat itself, as Oklahoma football player Caleb Williams takes a page of the Ed Reed playbook to ice the Kansas Jayhawks late in a game that was too close for comfort.
While it will go down in the annals as a 35-22 road win over another rebuilding Kansas team, this heads-up play by Williams will be the definitive moment of this game. On a fourth-and-1, Williams took the ball back from running back Kennedy Brooks on what looked to be a certain two-yard loss and a turnover on downs. Instead, he scampered for a new set of downs and a Sooners victory.
This is reminiscent of a play the all-time great defensive back did in a game for the Miami Hurricanes vs. the Boston College Eagles.

Though it was controversial to bench former starter Spencer Rattler in favor of the freshman five-star, this is undoubtedly Williams’ Oklahoma team the rest of the way.
By getting to 8-0, the Sooners are very much in the mix to not only win the Big 12 for the seventh season in a row, but make it into the College Football Playoff for the fifth time in school history.
When a player does something that reminds us of what Reed did at The U, it had to be special.
