Dabo Swinney threw team under the bus after Clemson lost to Pitt

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney had some harsh words for his team after losing to the Pittsburgh Panthers. 

It’s generally never a good thing when a head coach has to make massive changes midgame, but that’s what Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney had to do when the Tigers were struggling against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

As the Tigers offense was failing to score and committing turnovers, Swinney and the Tigers ended up bailing on their starting quarterback in favor of the backup. DJ Uiagalelei wound up on the sideline as Taisun Phommachanh took the reins of the offense.

And the Tigers still lost 27-17 on the road.

Pitt is a pretty good team, all things considered, but things are rough right now for this particular Clemson team and Swinney made sure it was clear that he was displeased with the way the Tigers were performing.

Following the loss, Swinney sounded off on his team’s performance, stating that the Tigers are “very immature” and have an “unconfident offense.”

Yikes.

All of Clemson’s issues should be seen as a reflection of Dabo Swinney’s leadership

Swinney and the Tigers have a lot of work to do. Clemson isn’t thriving right now and doesn’t even remotely resemble the ones that won championships over the past few years.

While this team was due for a down year of sorts, nobody can really sustain that sort of success over an extensive amount of time, Clemson struggling to this degree should indicate that it’s time for some fundamental changes within the Tigers’ coaching staff. Swinney should probably start considering how he wants to shake things up so Clemson can return to form.
