Steelers and 7 teams that should draft Kenny Pickett in 2022 NFL Draft
By John Buhler
Kenny Pickett could learn and grow under Matt Ryan on the Atlanta Falcons
From a developmental standpoint, the Atlanta Falcons are a terrific landing spot for Pickett. He would play for an offensive-minded head coach in Arthur Smith, as well as backup a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in Matt Ryan for a year or so. However, Ryan is not fully cooked and the rebuilding Falcons may want to go with another impact player than Pickett inside of the top 10.
The Denver Broncos are spiraling, so this hinges on the new staff coming in
The Denver Broncos have lost four games in a row after a 3-0 start. Their offense remains uninspired. This may cost head coach Vic Fangio his job at the end of the year. Since new general manager George Paton did not hire him, he can bring in an offensive-minded head coach who will get the quarterback position right. Pickett could start day one if he goes to the Broncos this spring.
Mike Zimmer and Kirk Cousins have to leave the Minnesota Vikings first here
If the Minnesota Vikings do not make the playoffs, the organization should clean house. It would have to be the end of the line for head coach Mike Zimmer, possibly the same for quarterback Kirk Cousins. Though they drafted Kellen Mond very high last spring out of Texas A&M, Pickett was the more proven starter in college of the two, and is not seen as much of a developmental project.
The Pittsburgh Steelers could right a Dan Marino wrong by taking Kenny Pickett
And we have arrived at the Pittsburgh Steelers, the most logical destination for Pickett. He plays, and stars, at Heinz Field already. Ben Roethlisberger was an unbelievable player in his prime, but he is aging like milk. Given that the Steelers goofed back in 1983 instead of taking Dan Marino out of Pitt, this makes all the sense in the world for them to keep the local product playing at home.
Expect for Pickett to be one of these seven NFL teams’ first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.
